  • Filton Third Avenue

I know that Filton Town Council has worked long and hard to achieve a scheme whereby the safety and security of the residents of Third Avenue is assured while the Millenium Green remains accessible to all who want to use it.  The Town Council has taken the responsible position of securing the back lane to Third Ave while this debate continues.   Whilst, strictly speaking, this is the business of the Town Council, I have suggested to Town Councillors that a final, credible and verifiable consultation of all the local residents should be conducted without delay.  The Council and residents should then abide by the result of this thorough consultation

  • A400M First Flight

What a fantastic morning!  To join staff at Airbus in Filton for the historic first flight of the ground breaking A400M will surely be one of the highlights of my time as a Parliamentary Candidate and, hopefully, Member of Parliament for Filton and Bradley Stoke.  I am proud of the support the Labour Government continues to give to this programme compared to the Lib Dems who have already pledged to scrap it and the Tories who have promised it will not be safe it they form the next Government.

Watching those momentous pictures with the many hundreds of local people, whose livelihoods directly depend on continuing support, only reinforces our belief that a Tory Government will be a change that the people of Filton and Bradley Stoke cannot afford.

  • Tory and Lib Dem blow for A400M and Eurofighter Projects‏

Thank you to the Evening Post for highlighting the Tory and LibDem lack of support for aerospace jobs and investment in the new constituency of Filton and Bradley Stoke.  http://www.thisisbristol.co.uk/news/blows-delayed-Airbus-jet/article-1341474-detail/article.html

Many thousands of livelihoods depend, either directly or indirectly, on these highly skilled and specialised jobs.  I am proud to fly the flag for our aerospace workers at every opportunity to ensure that we continue to be a world centre of excellence in these high tech products; and I was delighted to see Lord Mandelson visiting Filton recently to reaffirm the Labour Government's commitment to one of our most famous local industries.

Compare this to the LibDem Leader, Nick Clegg, who believes that we will 'understand if the project is scrapped, despite hundreds of workers facing the prospect of losing their jobs" and the Tory Shadow Chancellor, George Osborne, who promised that these projects "will not be safe from public spending cuts if the Conservatives sweep to power".

These views alone indicate why the people of Filton and Bradley Stoke cannot afford to have anything but a Labour Government after the next General Election.
